It’s been confirmed. Paris Bennett is engaged, and as the blog-o-sphere was speculating this week, she is indeed expecting her first child. A girl she will name Egypt, is due in October. Congratulations Paris. From her Official Street Team’s My Space:
There’s been a heavy gossip about Paris after the AARP concert pics, and I’m happy to tell you that Paris verified that she is pregnant and engaged. HUGE congratulations!! This is what she said in her own words:
well I was goin to do a special blog for my fans but yes im engaged and with child a girl and her name will be Egypt… she will be here in october just before the holiday album in november is released and the sophomore album in january!
Paris’s post-Idol career has been a bit of a disappointment. Her first album, released on her Uncle’s independent label had Paris singing second-rate hip-hop. Not surprisingly, it didn’t exactly fly off the shelves. Paris needs to hire a good producer for this next album. Hate to see the girl waste her talent.
ETA: About Paris’s next album:
She has done a holiday album with jazz flavors and is working on a record through Koch Records (Yes, the label that sold oodles of William Hung albums, which I mentioned to Paris but she didn’t exactly play off that joke). She is recording a mix of originals and jazz standards (Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan) with some neosoul. She’ll tackle “Summertime†by Billie Holiday and promises more of a “Billie†twist than Fantasia did back in 2004.
Bonus pregnancy news: Carmen Rasmusen of Season 2 is also pregnant. She and her husband are expecting a baby around Christmastime.

Congratulations, Paris! :D
For sure. Her audition is possibly my favorite AI audition of all time. That voice!
Paris has so much potential and I hope it all works out for her.
Is she 18 yet? Talk about taking the hard road. Wish her well.
I think Paris may be closer to 20 now. She was on season 5, so, that’s been a couple of years ago. If I’m not mistaken, she turned 18 shortly after the tour. Someone else may have better information.
Congratulations to both Paris and Carmen.
Don’t AI pregnancies come in threes? Next up, Kimberly Caldwell.
Just kidding, Cookie fans! Clay Aiken already filled that slot.
Wow, there is something in the idol water. Pregnancies abound. Congrats Paris and Carmen.
abbysee - you were thinking the exact same thing I was. We’ll just hope none of that water gets into Pauler’s cup! :)
WOW! I am a little surprised. Doesn’t look like she was trying to hide any of it. I wish her the best!! A child will change everything, as many of you already know!
From a great start, Paris went off the rails towards the end of her season. Between her horrible first album and now a baby, I just can’t see any kind of career for her . But maybe, she’ll have a nice life anyway and can revive the career when she’s older.
Well, congrats Miss Paris.
Paris’ next album will be all jazz, and is due November 2008. Don’t know if the baby will change that or not.
I think jazz is a much better fit for her.
I totally agree with this.
It’s such a hard road to attempt to build a career and raise a child at the same time. Especially when you’re so young. I wish her luck, because she’ll need it.
I don’t know what musical genre best suits Paris but I can guarantee her child will walk like an Egyptian.
According to this interview, she’s off to Idol Camp next! Heh.
Paris needs to hook up with someone like Mark Ronson and do an Amy Winehouse/Duffy type joint.
Mmm. That interview wasn’t very flattering to Paris. Not trying to sound like an old fart, but does Idol want a pregnant, as yet unmarried alum showing up to teach the children at Idol Camp.
Well they had an never married single mother as a winner, so I don’t think they really care!
Well, as old-fashioned as it makes me, I just think Paris’ situation is sad. I wish her the best. She’s a very talented girl and I hope she gets to use her talent to its fullest extent.
artificially.
LOL.
Anyway, congrats to Paris! And I’m happy to hear she’s adding some more jazz into her new album. I heard some snippets of the R&B she had on her first album — blech. Good to hear she’s now picking up on what sounds much better with her voice and is probably better music in general.
I loved when Paris did “Fever”. I think old style jazz is her forte.
