Rumor Central! Baraccuda Number Nixed, David Cook Plays for Walmart

Barracuda Performance Nixed From the Tour

Remember that trio for the tour David Cook mentioned in his EW Idolatry interview? It had Carly Smithson singing “Barracuda” with Jason Castro on drums and Cook on guitar.

Sounds pretty sweet, doesn’t it? Too bad! According to some Castro insiders on Idol Forums, the entire number has been pulled. Also, a request for a Brooke White/Jason Castro duet (Jason said on Larry King Live that he’d like to do a duet with Brooke) has been denied by TPTB.

There are lots of rumors swirling around about why the song was nixed. The prevalent feeling is that TPTB don’t want to bring “too much attention to certain Idols” at the expense of others. Who knows? One thing is for certain, some of the Dreadheads are kinda pissed and sending out emails to everyone they can think of. Whoops!

David Cook to play for the Wal-Mart shareholders on Friday

Like Idols before him (Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks and Carrie Underwood), I’m hearing via the AI forums at TWOP, that David Cook will perform a private concert for Wal-Mart shareholders and associates on Friday. The concerts usually start around 11 am CT, and are streamed live on the Wal-Mart website.

I’ll post further details when I have them.

pj -I believe on LKL it was stated that they would perform in exit order this year…. I could be wrong. In S5 they did the top 4 as the second half of the show and and 10-6 in the first half. It may have just worked out for the duets to do them in order for 4-1 because Elliott and Daughtry were awesome together. I don’t think E sang with Kat though. I could be wrong, she wasn’t there for the first show I went to. In S5 they did a girls song and a boys song. I am not thinking that’s a good idea this year. The boys don’t sound so hot together IMO.

I’ve only been to one AI concert and that was way back in Season 2. They performed in exit order with a few group sets thrown into the mix. The concert was a lot of fun. I’m hoping that is the format this year too.

I’m sorry there will be no Barracuda, and even sorrier for no Jason/Brooke duet. Rumor was they were going to sing Lucky which is a duet with Jason Mraz and Callie Colbert (I am probably spelling her name wrong.) It’s on his latest CD and would be perfect for the two of them. But…….oh well……it’s still going to be great fun! :)

I don’t think it’s fair to lump all Dreadheads together and say they’re all overreacting…Sooner is one person and the scary boards don’t count on principle. Just sayin’.

I’m disappointed, as a Jason fan, but as a Carly fan as well. I think they should play to everyone’s strengths this year instead of force them into awkward group songs when we all know they sound like crap as a group. Jason Brooke would’ve been one of the best duets possible, but what do I know? lol.

I was hoping they’d sing “Details in the Fabric” from the same CD - it’s a duet with James Morrison, but I think Brooke and Jason would have sounded terrific together on that song.

Some years they went in exit order on tour. Season 5 they mixed up 5-10, and put them so that the duets worked out better- Kellie with Bucky, Paris and Lisa, Ace and Mandisa (strange pair, but it worked). I would hope they might do that this year, they could put MJ and Carly together to close the 1st half. Can’t see why Brooke couldn’t always return in the second half to duet with Jason even if she is in the first half. I had been thinking the 2 of them could do Colbie Caillat’s Realize, with the guy’s part expanded a bit, great harmonies in that one.

Colbie Caillat is who I meant dueting with Jason Mraz on Lucky….LOL….I wrote Callie Colbert, kind of a mixed up version of her name. (slaps forehead) At any rate it is a really beautiful song and Brooke and Jason would have done well on it.

Well…..(as Jason would say LOL)……nothing is written in stone yet, they haven’t even started rehearsing so we will see how it all comes together. It will be a good tour and we will all get to see our favorites so it’s all good. :)

So, since it’s apparently unacceptable and devastating to Cook’s career for him to be performing at the Walmart shareholders meeting, what kind of corporate event would it be acceptable for him to perform at? I guess only something like Budweiser, right?

I love this song, too (Jason and James are my current top two fave artists), but I had never really considered Jason and Brooke doing it. Neither seems like the type to be pulling on threads, but maybe Brooke could use the “calm down, deep breaths” advice. Heh. ;)

I’m bummed about Barracuda, and Jason and Brooke would have been great singing together. Jason and Syesha? Whoa, talk about a mismatch.

I’m reading that the WalMart meeting actually goes from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. CT, so anyone who tunes in at 11:00 will probably miss David’s performance. I really hope he brings his guitar and doesn’t have to deal with cheesy canned music.

And now, Magic Rainbow– just him on guitar, mixing it up quite a bit. He’s making it his every time more, and now I am loving it!
