Boomerang's Portland LiMBO recap

It didn’t start well. I flew from the west coast on a redeye and missed my connecting flight. A kind gate agent rerouted me onto a plane to CT that was itself rerouted and 10 hours later I was in my rent-a-car facing a 3+ hour drive to Portland ME after being up all night.

I arrived at the Asylum just in time for the show. Took a quick walk out by the idol tour buses and swore I saw DAUGHTRY, but it turned out to be a guy wearing a bathing cap. Outside. In Maine. At night. No kidding. (Maybe it was a DAUGHTRY wig.)

LMBO was great. And well worth the crazy 3,000 mile, 24-hour journey. I especially loved their renditions of Honky Cat, Tiny Dancer and Will it Go Round in Circles. They are terrific showmen and know how to keep the crowd energy high throughout the show. The Jeff Lopez playing-two-saxophones-at-once thing is just crazy and truly a sight to behold.

LBMO got a lot of love from the crowd, although I was kinda surprised there weren’t more people in attendance. I thought there were about 100 – 150 people max. I'd be interested to know if others who were there agree with my estimate.

BTW, I heard someone at the show who met some of the idols at the buses say that Taylor and Katharine both had colds. Good fuel for the Kaylor rumors. Hee.

I ended up meeting Abilymom at the Asylum because she was running along a line of very serious Soul Patrollers (the ones parked four-deep along the stage, front row gals had their chins on the stage) yelling “MrsTrep, MrsTrep, does anyone here know MrsTrep”. I also met Abilydad and I must say they are both awesomelynice and a lot of fun to talk with. Thanks again for the earplugs Amom. In addition to being great to watch, LMBO was LOUD.

As an aside, Treppie, we tried to find you all evening. Someone who said they met you earlier told me I should have no trouble finding you because you look a lot like me. So next time you’ll be able to find me. Haha.

I met MJ at the end of the evening--by then, MrsTrep and the Abilys had long gone--and enjoyed chatting with her on the way out of the club. It was a perfect way to end the evening. (And for those of you who are closely following MJs great adventures, I’m pleased to report she headed back to her hotel with her pocketbook in hand, glasses intact, and her sporty little vehicle started up, no problemo.)
